Japanese authorities had a strict set of conditions
as to how mail to POW's and Civilian Internees was to be written and addressed.
Anything contrary to these conditions were to be returned to the sender
by the U.S. Censor.
1943 OCTOBER 7: SHRUB OAK, NEW YORK to PHILIPPINES Addrssed to a British Civilian Internee and returned to the sender as stipulated by checked items 1 and 2 by a U.S. Censor on Form 1698. Address has been taped out to ensure that the envelope was returned. |
