December 8, 1941 Attack on the Philippines
On December 7, 1941, Japanese military forces attacked 
the Hawaiian Islands of the United States of America. December 8, 1941, had seen Japanese forces attack Hong Kong, Malaysia, Guam, Wake Island, Midway Island and the Philippine Islands.

The United States declared war with Japan on December 8 and was now involved in World War II.

The Japanese word for "Philippine Islands" is HITO, a contraction of the words HIRIPIN GUNTO (the 5 kanji figures illustrated below). In written form only the first and fifth characters are used.
