On December 7, 1941, Japanese military forces
attacked
the Hawaiian Islands of the United States of
America. December 8, 1941, had seen Japanese forces attack Hong Kong, Malaysia,
Guam, Wake Island, Midway Island and the Philippine Islands.
The United States declared war with Japan on December
8 and was now involved in World War II.
The Japanese word for "Philippine Islands" is
HITO,
a contraction of the words HIRIPIN GUNTO (the 5 kanji figures illustrated
below). In written form only the first and fifth characters are used.
