DECEMBER 4, 1868: 30c orange, 12c black (#71, #69), tied by two strikes of 4-ringed circle cancels on folded letter bearing red BOSTON DEC 4 PAID, Storer forwarder, "32" (British packet credit),  LONDON 28 DE 68, "2" and "Via Marseilles" on front, HONG KONG FE 13 69 transit and indistinct Feb Manila receiver on reverse.

Another example of the 42c single rate via Marseilles. This letter had a most interesting transit, originally departing New York on December 5 on the Inman Liner "CITY OF BOSTON", which lost its rudder and turned back, then transferred to the Cunarder "CUBA" departing New York on December 16.

The letter refers to the necessity' of issuing credit to make sales, Grant's electoral vote, a visit to Boston and writer's son entering Harvard.
