23SP69 and "Via Marseilles" on front, HONG KONG NO 5 69 transit and small
Manila receiver on reverse.
The last
cover to fall under the 32c via Marseilles single rate which expired in
January, 1870. The letter departed New York September 11 on the Inman Liner
"CITY OF WASHINGTON".
The letter
refers to a very surprising and strong hurricane which hit Boston with
disastrous results. |
