and “Via Marseilles” on front.
57c was
the single rate via Marseilles when calculated on the 1/2oz basis. The
rate lasted only 19 months. The cover departed New York December 13 on
the Inman Liner “CITY OF MANCHESTER".
The letter
refers to more war news, bombardment of Fredericksburg, the Southern “Pirate”
ship Alabama, the construction of monitors, etc.
