On May 26,
1926, the Brias Roxas Company (BRIROX), following the lead of the C. L.
Alcan Company, requested the Bureau of Posts for stamps to be overprinted
with
"B / MANILA / P.I.". The request was denied because of the
insignificant quantity being ordered but authorized the issuance of
the already overprinted stock of MANILA / P.I. stamps.
The Brias Roxas
Company overprinted the text "Manila / P.I." themselves on regular
stamps obtained from common sources. Initially believed used only for a
short time in 1926. Now we know better as illustrated cover prove that
the overprinted stamps were used for about four years. |
