Around 1911
or 1912, The Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China began using perforated
initials to identify postage stamps used by the bank. The "CBI"
perfin known to be applied on the stamps either on front or back,
horizontal or vertical up and down and diagonal. Partial initials also
exist. The Type I perforated initials was used until around 1916.
The first application,
catalogued here as TYPE I, were the letters "CBI" in 5mm high format.
