American Military Forces landed in the Philippines on July 1, 1898 following the defeat of the
Spanish Armada during the May 1, 1898 Battle of Manila Bay. Their presence, deemed 
by the Filipinos as the new colonizers, resulted in the Philippine-American War of 1898.

on Second Direct  Mail Dispatch to the U.S. on July 23, 1898, 
or one week before the opening of the first U.S. Military Postal Station 
at Cavite.  Subjected to 2c Postage Due upon arrival.

Soldier's Letter endorsed by Major John M. STOTSENBURG, 
an active participant in the U.S. military operations in the Philippines
against the Revolutionary Forces of General Emilio Aguinaldo.
