 UNRECORDED PRE-WAR MARKING

A similar device to this pre-war unrecorded marking was employed in Cebu
between 1952 to 1955. It is highly possible that this is an earlier usage
of the 1952 device and its used ceased due to World War II.

In the late 1940s shipping companies starting putting back the buzons
or mail boxes on their commercial vessels at the request of the Bureau of Posts.
Although not mandatory, some companies complied with the request
immediately and some followed much later. It is believed that both devices
are the same and the late post-war usage in Cebu is mainly due
to the late implementation of the post office request.
