The Dotted Star Cancel was used generally from 1880 to 1898, primarily in small towns where there was likely no circular date cancelling device. Other cancels which appear on covers with this cancel were applied in transit. The cancel was used mostly on interior mail rather than overseas mail. It is known only for postal use. |
