NOVEMBER 12 4c Franking short by 8c the required 12c letter rate (from the image provided I deemed the envelope sealed and therefore not qualified for the 4c printed matter rate), endorsed to the SS HAKONE MARU and censored upon arrival in Japan. 
The Hakone Maru was used as a transport ship during the war, both civilian and military, from occupied territories to Japan, and was sunk in a U.S. air attack on November 27, 1943 in the Taiwan Straight (Gene Labiuk). |
