Gene Labiuk of Canada sent the following note: In regards to the MS BOISSEVAIN cover. The Boissevain was a Dutch registered ship, who in 1940 was at war in Germany. This ship may have sailed from Manila, to the D.E.I. to India and then to Mozambique and then S. Africa. The passenger may have been picked up in route to Africa, where he may be doing business with the Br. Government in the colonies in Africa or taken a trip to Egypt to do business with the Br. Government there. The other scenario being he was picked up at a port in India, boated it to Mozambique, where he picked a Portuguese flight to Lisbon and then to Germany. The U.S. and the Philippines were neutral during this time and could do business with whom they wanted and travel where they wanted. A bit inconvenient, but they could.
