Something
is not right with this cover. The date on the oval cancel is clearly OCTOBER
26, 1844. Take note of the red pre-payment of postage entry which was applied
in Macao - It is clearly dated FEBRUARY 6, 1844, and the the Rio arrival
postmark in black is MARCH 15, 1844. The transit time of just over a month
is just proper.
Logically
the sover should have left Manila on or about the end of January 1844,
for the standard 1-week transit to Macao. An error on the month seems very
unlikely as there is a big gap between JANUARY, the most probable dispatch
month and OCTOBER. What do you think?
