1844 OVAL FILIPINAS / MANILA POSTMARK
TO RIO DE JANEIRO

Postmark used between 1842 - 1844

Black oval FILIPINAS / Oct. 28 1844" postmark on entire folded letter.
Forwarding Agent: Badurrand / Macao.

Something is not right with this cover. The date on the oval cancel is clearly OCTOBER 26, 1844. Take note of the red pre-payment of postage entry which was applied in Macao - It is clearly dated FEBRUARY 6, 1844, and the the Rio arrival postmark in black is MARCH 15, 1844. The transit time of just over a month is just proper.

Logically the sover should have left Manila on or about the end of January 1844, for the standard 1-week transit to Macao. An error on the month seems very unlikely as there is a big gap between JANUARY, the most probable dispatch month and OCTOBER. What do you think?
