500 Soldiers of Philippine origin was sent by Spain to Conchinchina at the request of France
after the beheading of Spanish missionary Fray Maria D. Sanjurjo in July 1857.
The soldiers were under the command of Coronel Oscariz
and were transported on board the vessels Elcano and Jorge Juan.
