1943 FALL OF BATAAN - CORREGIDOR
PROVINCIAL FIRST DAY COVERS
JOLO, SULU FDC
On page 262 of Gene Garret's book A POSTAL HISTORY OF THE JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF THE PHILIPPINES, 1942-1945, it is noted that JOLO, SULU as one of the provincial capitals in which post offices were reopened prior to May 7, 1943 and from which FDCs could therefore exist but not have been reported. The other post offices are TUGUEGARAO, CAGAYAN;  IMUS, CAVITE and CATBALOGAN, SAMAR.

ZAMBOANGA FDC
This is a very interesting cover. on page 54 of Garrett's book, re: Post Offices  Reopened During the Japanese Occupation, the reopening of the Zamboanga Post Office  is noted with the date "9-22-43 Cover." On page 47, he explains that "The word  'COVER' indicates that a reopening is evidenced by the existence of postal covers." On page 486, where different types of Zamboanga cancelling devices, two types of Zamboanga postmarks are illustrated with dates earlier than May 7, 1943, the issue date of the above stamps.

Without doubt covers from Zamboanga postmarked before May 7, 1943 exist. The above Zamboanga FDC is therefore legit. The above two covers now bring  to 42 FDCs from provincial capital and chartered cities
