SELLO POSTAL
/ PROVISIONAL / BOHOL
On piece with
the oval seal - postal cancel of
CANTON DE
BOHOL / PUEBLO DE MARIBOJOC.
This is
the 20th specimen that I have recorded of the issue.
This wonderful
piece was sent to me with the following note:
My name is
Kent Gray, and I am normally a state revenue collector.
I was going
through some old boxes of "ignore" material I keep shuffling from one place
to another looking for material to sell on eBay.
Imagine my
surprise when I decided to plug "sello postal bohol provisional" into Yahoo,
and your page showed up. I am in the middle of several catalogs,
and appreciate your attempt at doing a census on a specific issue.
I have no reference
material for PI except the US Scott Specialized, and it obviously doesn't
cover this stamp. The scan you have is hard to see - is mine the
same? If so, feel free to use the info as you see fit for your website.
I remember buying a PI "O.B." collection in Albuquerque around 1996, and
this was in the collection.
Thanks in advance
for any info you might have on this stamp!
Without doubt
a great find and of course genuine in all respects. A million thanks to
Mr. Gray for this fantastic contribution. I was jolted off my seat upon
seeing for the first time an example neatly tied by the oval Maribojoc
seal-postal cancel. I was the one who discovered this issue on three
covers. The most noted of all is the cover addressed
to Cebu and subjected to 2c Postage Dues. This cover was in the
Chiong collection for some time, then in the Lange collection. It is now
in the hands of a noted U.S. collector who specialized in U.S. Military
Posts. The second cover is in the collection of a local collector and the
third which was mutilated with the addition of Republic issue FAO stamps
and cancelled FDC Cebu. I believe this cover was reduced to a "piece" by
its present owner. |
